Interview with “Chocolate Lisa,” CEO/owner

How did you get involved in this business?
I have always been a foodie; a crowd-pleaser through food. The desire to bring excitement and pleasure through food led me to create a new, exciting, extremely tasty, natural chocolate product.

What distinguishes you from other businesses in your category?
We produce a menu of confections that marry traditional (cocoa) with natural ingredients that appeal to people with epicurean tastes: a true blend of a European truffle and the all-American brownie. We are truly handcrafted locally, and this is a family business. Currently, we — my kids and myself — make it, bake it, pack it, wrap it, ship it and sell it. We believe in it, and we love it.

What do you like best about your line of work?
I believe we need a new, healthy, flavorful chocolate product, and I love to create this product, these flavors and watch and smile as we deliver love and delight to all people.

What is your business’ biggest challenge?
As with most small businesses, financial start-up costs are our biggest challenge. Also, creating brand awareness. Once they know/taste us, they love us, love the product. Another challenge is educating the market to know there is a healthy alternative to satisfy and share their chocolate cravings.

Something people might be surprised to learn about you or your business:
Being an entrepreneur means wearing numerous hats. You may start out in the morning doing janitorial duties, and you may end up going to bed wearing your CFO-CEO hat. This has been a long time coming … it’s simply continually believing, creating and having that faith that we are right where we are supposed to be. Sharing affordable luxury and decadent indulgences.
